When was the last time you did something for yourself that made you feel truly content? What would you give to have peace, an unencumbered sleep or a true sense of belonging? The day I interviewed with Dr. Proodian (Owner/Clinical Director) and Alex (General Manager) at NHC, I was overwhelmed with a sense of comfort that solidified my occupational destiny.
Even before Dr. Proodian interrogated me (just kidding, he was so gracious); I told him “I have to work here, it just feels right.” Now close your eyes and imagine a time in your life when you were able to feel welcomed; special, and worthy of your God given gifts.
For many of you, setting aside YOU time can mean taking even 30 minutes a month face down on a cozy, warm bed to get a therapeutic massage. In case you are wondering, a Therapeutic massage is a type of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practice that is often used to treat muscle pain, injury, and stiffness. Massage therapy has also been used for the treatment of mental and emotional problems, including stress and anxiety.
Here at NHC, Michael Walsh (aka “Magic Mike”) is one of our very special Massage Therapists. Native born in Okinawa Japan, Mike serves our community and staff with not only the gift of comfort, but knowingly serves our patients with empathy, compassion, and a sense of purpose. Mike is the kind of guy that would jump into a pool of egg-whites if given the opportunity (“because I think it would feel so awesome!”) and taps into his creative side as an amazing chef at Salt Creek Grill.
Mike’s art of therapeutic, deep tissue, and muscle manipulation techniques stems from both experience as a masseuse and his training in martial arts. “My patients tell me what hurts and I do all I can to ask questions and give them what they need.” “Magic Mike” has NHC patients and hopeful staff lining up for just a morsel of time with a masseuse who can throw an expert elbow in your back and alleviate your pain at the same time!
When our favorite masseuse is not magically dissipating our pain and whatever emotional ailments we present him with, he spends time as a dedicated husband and father of his now 14 year old son ‘Toby’; named after his favorite famous country singer Toby Keith.

Jennifer Rae is a Board-Certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner (APN) with nearly 30 years of experience helping individuals in both traditional and homeopathic medicine. She has vast expertise as an APN that spans in neurology, family medicine, behavioral and mental health conditions. Jennifer is passionate about teaching and utilizing a preventative, holistic approach with her patients.
